Test Specimen

Serum:

  • Serum Separator Tube or red top tube, 5-10 mL preferred, 0.1 mL minimum sample volume 

Collection Instructions:

  • Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere to prevent environmental contamination of the sample

  • Centrifuge and send entire specimen in original collection tube

  • Do not aliquot or open tube

  • The serum can be decanted into a suitable container that is free of interfering levels of (1-3)-B-D-glucan; however, the use of pour-off tubes is not recommended due to the potential for environmental contamination of the sample that can lead to false positive results

  • Serum samples which are transferred to sterile, leak-proof containers should be handled in a sterile cabinet

  • Interpret results from samples provided in pour-off tubes with caution

CSF/Bronchoalveolar Lavage/Bronchial Wash:

  • Collect sample in a sterile container

Rejection Criteria: 

  • Incorrect specimen types

  • Specimens collected in an incorrect or unsterile container

  • Samples exposed to environmental contamination

Storage, Stability & Shipping

Storage & Stability: 

  • 2-8°C = 15 days

  • -15° to -25ºC = 27 days

  • -80°C +/- 10°C = up to 4 years

Shipping:

  • Ship samples refrigerated (on ice packs) or frozen

  • Ship Monday through Friday

  • Friday shipments must be labeled for Saturday delivery
