Oncology Testing:

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)

  • BCR/ABL1 is the primary gene rearrangement associated with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), resulting from a translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22.

  • This rearrangement creates a protein that drives cellular growth out of control and leads to overproduction of certain blood cells.

  • FISH for BCR/ABL1 allows the translocation to be identified at diagnosis and monitored for disease progression or relapse.

Sample Requirements:

  • Peripheral Blood or Bone Marrow

    • 2-5mL in a sodium heparin (green top) tube. 5 mL in a EDTA (purple top) will be accepted but is not preferred.

    • Minimum: 1 mL

  • Storage:  Room temperature if being shipped within 24 hours.  Refrigerate if shipping will be delayed.

  • Stability: Sample is optimum if received within 48 hours.

  • Transportation:  Room temperature (do not freeze or fix)
