Oncology Testing:

Multiple Myeloma (MM)

  • Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a disease of the plasma cells, which comprise only 2-3% of cells in healthy blood.

  • To increase the concentration of plasma cells in our myeloma FISH studies, we use a CD138+ selection protocol to isolate the target cells and identify genetic changes.

  • IGH rearrangement is a common finding in MM FISH studies — KSL Diagnostics' IGH reflex panel for IgH rearrangement study looks for the IGH partner gene to identify which chromosomes have translocated and help drive treatment decisions.

Sample Requirements:

  • Peripheral Blood or Bone Marrow

    • 2-5mL in a sodium heparin (green top) tube. 5 mL in a EDTA (purple top) will be accepted but is not preferred.

    • Minimum: 1 mL

  • Storage:  Room temperature if being shipped within 24 hours.  Refrigerate if shipping will be delayed.

  • Stability: Sample is optimum if received within 48 hours.

  • Transportation:  Room temperature (do not freeze or fix)
