Test Specimen

Peripheral Blood:

  • Minimum of 4 mL required

  • Lavender-top (EDTA) tubes preferred

Bone Marrow:

  • 1-2 ml Bone Marrow required

  • Lavender-top (EDTA) tubes preferred

  • Maintain specimen at room temperature

Rejection Criteria:

  • Frozen or blood or bone marrow

  • Specimens collected in anticoagulants other than EDTA or Sodium heparin

  • Clotted or grossly hemolyzed specimen

Storage, Stability & Shipping

Storage:

  • Label specimen with patient's name and date of birth

  • Complete requisition form with necessary information

  • Local Clients call KSL Diagnostics at 1.800.960.1080 to schedule a pickup

  • Ship samples at room temperature (do not freeze or fix)

Stability:

  • Specimen viability decreases during transit

  • Send day of collection when possible

  • Specimen optimum if received within 48 hours

  • Ambient = 24-48 hours, refrigerated = 3 days (preferred)
